At 5’11, she defends the post well, and her athleticism allow her defending smaller players. Itziar is also a strong rebounder thanks to her long arms. She shows great hustle and agressiveness on the court, getting back in transition, fighting every ball, screening for teammates or crashing the offensive boards.

Itziar’s offensive game includes a nice 3 range shot but she can drive and hit runners, along with soft touch around the rim. Itziar is the perfect definition from a coachable player. With her great attitude, desire and academics (3.92 GPA), she is ready to take the next step in her life, being and student-athlete in a new college.

Personal Message

My name is Itziar Ugarte, and I am a 5’11” guard, DIV I player for the last two years at Portland State University in the Big Sky Conference.

I consider myself a very versatile player. I show aggressiveness and bring a lot of intensity to the team, both in offense and defense. At 5’11, I can play defense on the low post, but my speed and athleticism allow me to defend small players as well.

Some of my greatest strengths are getting back in transition, fighting every ball, screening for teammates, or crashing the offensive boards.

My offensive game includes a nice 3-point range shot, but I can also drive and hit runners and finish with a soft touch around the rim. I am a team player, always looking for the best option and the extra pass. I consider myself a coachable player, adapting to the needs of each game or situation.

During my Freshman Year (Covid Year) and 9000 km away from home, it was a year that helped me adapt to the new team and culture. I still managed to play in 20 games and help the team in the regular season.

In my Sophomore Year, things changed with the arrival of a new Head Coach after the departure of the Head Coach who recruited me.  The season has been a little more challenging for me and my teammates, with the freshman players incorporated by the new staff having more prominence. However, I have played in 17 games and I have always been ready to play when the team has required it.

Before Portland State, I played with my Spanish Team in the U-18 Basketball National Championship, where we obtained 9th place, with me being one of the best 3P shooters among all teams. We also got 2nd place that year in the U18 Regional Championship. I started in all the games of both championships.

That season, I also played with the Senior Team in the 1st Spanish Women’s National Division, obtaining the 6th final position at the end of the year.

I was a regular part of the rotation and was awarded a “First Team of the Week” and invited to the 3-point shooting contest in the National All-Star invitational.

With three years of eligibility left and looking for a university with great academic standing, I believe that my work ethic and talent would be a great fit for your program.

Of course, I am a good student, with a 3.92 GPA in my two first years at Portland State University as a Computer Science major and Bussiness minor.
